Chasing the Storm
By: Steve DeLaney
The wife, Aussie and I decided on Thursday night that Juan would be delivering the goods to New England. So on Friday we wrapped up work, packed the van and headed North.
We arrived in Rhode Island after dark on Saturday night and set up camp.
We awoke for DP on Sunday to find that the swell was already past us. I called my friend Chris in New Hampshire for a report. He informed me that I had better get my ass up there. It was 6 to 8 ft. and offshore!
We made it up there around 10 a.m. The tide was starting to drop and the points were lighting up.
We surfed an awesome right point called Nunyas. It was going off! The fog was so thick that you could only see a fraction of the wave from the beach.
We surfed the right for a couple of hours. It was such a long wave my legs were as tired as my arms!
After the tide dropped we moved on over to a nice little left point.
It was pretty sketchy but lucky for me Aussie was watching over me!
The next morning we sampled some super fun beach break. It felt like a cross between Wabasso and Spany.
It was an incredible journey. And to end it right, I got to my beach yesterday to find some fun shorepound!
The luck of the Irish baby!
